John has served on City Council since January 1992. First, John was the Ward Nine Councilman and since June of 2001, as a Councilman at Large.
John has also served in the Council Leadership positions of President Pro-Tem and Vice-President. Since 2001, chaired the Council’s Planning and Rules Committees. Prior to 2001, chaired the Budget & Finance, Public Utilities, and the Housing Committees.
During John's 16 years on Akron City Council, he advocated the City’s Sexually Oriented Business ordinance, Rental Housing Registration ordinance, the Customer Service Request System/311 Call Center, the Automated Mobile Speed Enforcement System, and the development of the Mud Run Golf Course.
